GOOP, Gwyneth Paltrow’s online magazine does a great feature on restaurants, hotels, bars and neighborhoods in DC. It’s a pretty decent list of the great DC standbys.
What do you think of the list?

Oh my goodness have you guys heard about this gorgeous new shop in Alexandria?! It’s called Society Fair and is a gourmet grocery and cafe featuring goods from some of Alexandria’s top restaurants (many of which are top restaurants nationally). I believe they’ll also be offering cooking classes.
I really wish I made it out to Alexandria more often, as their food offerings are just fantastic, from the coffee shops to Restaurant Eve, to PX to the gorgeous Brabo (where I spent a lovely afternoon eating roast beef sandwiches and tasting wines) it’s really just a food lover’s wonderland.
I think I should put together a food tour of King St., Who’s interested?
This sounds like probably the coolest way to spend a Sunday! Several restaurants along Barracks Row will be opening their kitchens for classes.
I’m thinking maybe the pizza class at Matchbox, definitely the Indian food class, and the Belgian class at Belga cafe! Ohmygoodness!
Jodi are you wtih me?!
This is by far my favorite DC event of the year. Penn Quarter is literally taken over by row upon row of food stall, with great small bites from some of the best restaurants in the city, for very reasonable places. Add to that the wine tasting pavilion and you pretty much have my happiest day ever.
It’s this Saturday and Sunday, I”ll be there, and you should go too!
Sadly, my phone/camera has had some mechanical difficulties and I’m unable to share photos with you of my weekend.
Tumbling without photos seems somehow wrong so I’ll keep it short
1. You must try the Rickey Bobby at the Passenger, gin, lime juice and ginger beer… it’s perfection!
2. The Eat Local DC farm to street fest was no good, and unfortunately a waste of money. With only two stalls with savory options, it just didn’t have much worth eating.
3. The Grey DC market on Sunday was pretty good though! They had about 25 vendors selling everything from flavored pop corn to home made pickled okra to crunkcakes. I’m really hoping to work with them more as I love love love their mission.
4. pie crust is hard to make! any suggestions on whether to prebake crust or not? is it necessary?
I’m loving how prepared for summer my refrigerator finally is! I’ve got a jug of home made iced tea, and a freezer full of home made berry sorbet to keep me cool on hot summer days. Now I just can’t wait for my first CSA vegetable delivery this week to really dive into the season.
These two women ditched their day jobs to become full time bakers! Good luck and I can’t wait to try your food!
This is such exciting news! Primarily because this new Taylor shop will be pretty close to my office, but also because I love love love to see young local entrepreneurs succeed in such an awesome way.
I used to live right near Taylor’s first shop on H St. NE, I think I visited in one of it’s first few weeks when the owners were making the sandwiches and working the register. Look how far they’ve come!
Great recommendations for out door sitting, drinking eating etc. I’m now dying to visit Bourbon steak to check out their patio.
My favorite patio spots are the Red Derby, DC9 and the new El Centro DF and Solly’s is probably my absolute favorite for happy hour. I’m always looking for more spots though, and definitely want to check out Veranda soon as it’s pretty close to my office!
What patio’s do you love?
My goodness, I was just browsing through the photos on my camera and I’ve eaten some great food lately that you haven’t heard about!
I’ll do a couple of posts soon on my homemade pizza, a trip to Delaware and to Dallas, as well as a feature one one of my new favorite spots in DC (It’s totally old news, but consistently awesome). But for now, here’s a photo of the gorgeous view from the roof of the Canadian Embassy, if you ever get a chance to go to a reception there, don’t turn it down, they serve Big Rock Candian beer and pretty decent appetizers. ( try the hard cider, it’s delicious)
